Forgiveness is a faulty concept. First off, it implies that one person, who is good, was hurt by another person, who is bad. The good person is supposed to magnanimously hand the bad person this gift that may or may not be deserved. And the bad person should be humbly grateful. The whole superiority thing plays out really well in the fantasies that we like to spin in our heads, but again, reality is more complex than that. Plus, the second flaw to the concept of forgiveness is that, in theory, once it's magnanimously given, it's over. It's done. And both parties are supposed to move on. But how do you do that in cases where nothing has really changed? Are you supposed to just keep forgiving, forgiving, forgiving? That gets old. So instead of forgiving, you learn to accept.
You accept that people are the way they are. There's nothing you can do about it, except learn ways to minimize the damage they can do to you. It's like rain. We don't feel a need to forgive the sky for raining on a day when we really wanted sunshine, do we? No. We might be upset and dissapointed, but the need to forgive never enters our mind.
